Outsiders, rebels, and weirdos, be aware: there’s a poetry workshop for you. In this workshop, we will investigate escapism and alternative universes in the context of poets and artists. We will generate and workshop poems inspired by our forays into pop culture, film, literature, and contemporary art, as well as respond to our favorite nerdy topics in a radical new ekphrasis. Don’t be afraid to reveal your inner Craysian in this poetry workshop designed to shake loose your nerdy, alternative, kooky side — we will work on taking risks, and helping each other take risks as well!

Sally Wen Mao is the author of Mad Honey Symposium (Alice James Books, 2014), the winner of the 2012 Kinereth Gensler Award. Her work has been anthologized in The Best American Poetry 2013 and is forthcoming or published in Poetry, Black Warrior Review, Guernica, jubilat, The Missouri Review, and Washington Square, among others.
