Taking a cue from Raymond Carver's poignant work, "Where I'm Calling From," the Asian American Writers' Workshop was inspired to provide a forum where youth could participate in the art of creative nonfiction.
This writing workshop, bearing the name of Carver's short story, successfully brought together fourteen young writers from across various backgrounds and situations into an arena where they could learn to successfully document their own unique and compelling stories.
These gifted authors wrote under the tutelage of New York based writers Edward Garcia and Bushra Rehaman. Additional instruction in the field of creative non-fiction was given by cartoonist Jennifer Camper and New York based writer Rain Noe.
WICF culminated in an event where each participant performed their work pieces onstage for a grateful audience packed with family, friends, and AAWW members.
