2025-26 Poetry Coalition Fellow

Asian American Writers’ Workshop, a founding member of the Poetry Coalition, is accepting applications for a paid Poetry Coalition Fellowship position. This position is 20 hours per week from September 2, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The total stipend is $20,000 plus $1,100 toward health care. The Poetry Coalition is a national alliance of nearly thirty organizations dedicated to working together to promote the value poets bring to our culture and the important contribution poetry makes in the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds.

For over 30 years, the Asian American Writers’ Workshop has been dedicated to publishing and amplifying Asian diasporic literary culture. Operating from a radically inclusive ethos, AAWW expands the definitions of who is a writer and who is Asian. Through a diverse lineup of programming and our award-winning magazine, The Margins, AAWW serves as a vital sanctuary space and incubator for writers and readers alike. In cultivating and curating the next generation of storytellers, AAWW works to mobilize the literary community toward a more just future.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Aligning with AAWW’s move to our new office and event space this year, our incoming Poetry Coalition Fellow will aid in cultivating a warm, accessible, and inviting environment. Through assistance with live programs, membership offerings, and our vast archive and library, the fellow will be an invaluable source of care, capacity, and collaboration in welcoming our communities back to our space with openness and generosity.

The ideal candidate for this role is not only familiar with but excited about Asian American and Asian diasporic literature, honing a personal creative practice, as well as growing and learning within the literary and arts nonprofit sector. This position will adhere to AAWW’s current hybrid work schedule and will require both on and offsite participation with varying hours due to the nature of our programming and events schedule.

Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Committing to 20 hours per week for the entire ten-month fellowship
  • Participating in on-site event production with our programs team and invited guests and co-hosts
  • Collaborating across AAWW’s programs, communications, and editorial teams
  • Assisting with a large scale library organizing project in our new Flatiron space
  • Engaging with our community through our creative social networking and in person programming
  • Enhancing readership of our digital and archival print publications through the launch of our public reading room

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Great hands-on research and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask with attention and care detail
  • Proficiency with Instagram, Tik Tok, or willingness to learn, a plus!
  • Efficient and creative problem solving
  • Knowledge of one’s own capacity and boundaries
  • Enthusiasm for Asian American literature
  • Generous, kind, and open demeanor
  • Eagerness to cultivate a personal creative practice
