This virtual masterclass explores the foundations of adapting a narrative piece for the screen, helping participants identify the cinematic potential within their existing written work. Drawing from her own experience adapting pieces originally written during her AAWW Open City Fellowship into short films (Baklava that Tastes Like Home & Love in the Time of Minder), Maryam Mir will work with participants to examine theme, structure, character development and the process of translating voice and character into visual storytelling.
Participants will leave with a practical blueprint for breaking down their work into its core dramatic elements, including theme, character, conflict and visual language, and a clear set of building blocks for beginning the process of writing.
