Nerissa S. Balce teaches ethnic American writing, visual, and popular culture at SUNY Stony Brook. She is the author of the book, Body Parts of Empire, on American culture and ideas during the Philippine-American War of 1899. Her current research focuses on Filipino visual culture and fiction in a time of Filipino fascism. She is a member of Malaya NY, a Filipino community organization that advocates for human rights issues in the Philippines and in the United States.
