Sophia Tareen is a civic technologist and writer based in Brooklyn. Through the AAWW Open City Fellowship, she plans to write about how South Asian New Yorkers are interacting with and experiencing digital technologies across the city. Specifically, she is interested in telling stories about app-based work, smart city technologies, and digital literacy in Kensington and Jackson Heights. For several years, Sophia has been working on technologies to improve outcomes for people using public services like SNAP or Medicaid. She is also a photographer and archivist with an interest in documenting and preserving stories of minorities.
