This May, in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, join the Asian American Book Club and the Asian American Writers’ Workshop for a family-friendly recipe tasting and celebration of Priya Krishna‘s Priya’s Kitchen Adventures: A Cookbook for Kids! Priya will be joined by special guest Sheetal Sheth, actress, producer, and author of Bravo, Anjali! 

Bring your kids for a sampling of Priya’s favorite recipes, reading by Sheetal from her children’s book, and series of other activities centered around food, family, and fun! We’re graciously being hosted at Hana House in Downtown Brooklyn, at 345 Adams Street Brooklyn, NY 11201.

Priya Krishna is a food reporter for The New York Times and a bestselling author of multiple cookbooks, including Indian-ish and Cooking at Home. Her newest cookbook, a globe-trotting adventure through my childhood called Priya’s Kitchen Adventures, is out in April 2024.

She hosts an online video series for The New York Times that looks at labor in the food industry called On the Job. Priya has been nominated for a James Beard award and an IACP award, and in 2021, was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list. Her hope in all of her work is to expand the lens of who gets to tell stories about food, and whose stories are told.

Sheetal Sheth is an award winning actress, author, producer, and activist. Sheetal has starred in over 20 feature films and has earned a loyal, international following. She won 3 Best Actress nods for ‘The World Unseen’ and 1 for her role in ‘Wings of Hope’, with the former premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival and then going on to win 11 SAFTA’s (South African equiv to Oscars). In 2012, fans voted her ‘Favorite Movie Actress’ in AfterEllen’s Visibility Awards. Her short film ‘Grin,’ which she also produced, picked up several awards on the festival circuit including Best Actress and Best Film. She is in post production on ‘Hummingbird,’ a feature film she stars in and produced.

She is the author of the popular and award-winning Anjali children’s book series (Penguin Random House). Her first children’s book Always Anjali was published in May, 2018 to wide acclaim and popularity. The follow up, Bravo Anjali! was published in September, 2021. Her latest book, Making Happy is an ode to mental health and self-care and was named one of the best books of 2022.
